Elements of this Project:
1. Closed Workshops on "Transplantation Medicine in the Paediatric Context"
Two Closed Workshops, Pembroke College, 7th June 2024 and 6th December 2024. The project is funded by a grant from the John Fell Fund.
These workshops are aimed at exploring issues concerning informed consent and risk assessment in paediatric context in relation to organ donation and transplantation. While the first workshop (7th June 2024) focused on conflict of interests and role of religious beliefs, the second workshop (6th December 2024) focused on children's consent and capacity with respect to medical decision-making regarding organ donation and transplantation. These issues were explored through discussion among various stakeholders, adopting an inter-disciplinary lens and comparative approach, and drawing upon case studies from various contexts. In combination, these workshops are aimed towards a systematic analysis of the relevant issues as well as meaningful dialogue leading to a long term network and publications.
More information regarding the first workshop held on 7th June 2024 can be accessed via this link.
More information regarding the second workshop held on 6th December 2024 can be accessed via this link.
2. Conditional Consent in Transplantation Medicine: assessing the legal, ethical and clinical factors
Closed expert and stakeholder workshop, Pembroke College, 1st December 2023.
This project builds on work and activities carried out as part of the ESRC Impact Acceleration Account and Law Faculty Research Support Fund supported project 'Translating Legal Obligations in practice in Organ Donation and Transplantation', which included the November 2022 Organ Donation and Transplantation (ODT) workshop. More information can be accessed via this link.
3. Organ Donation and Transplantation (ODT) Workshop
Closed expert and stakeholder workshop, Pembroke College, 25th November 2022.
The closed workshop addressed the challenges of different forms of consent in organ donation and transplantation in Germany and the UK, as well as the practical issues experienced by clinicians in practice. The discussions that took place between academics, clinicians, donor family members and legal practitioners from both the UK and Germany will inform a number of upcoming joint papers. More information can be accessed via this link.
4. 'Interview with the Experts' in Transplantation Medicine Podcast
This project is supplemented by a podcast series 'Interviews with the Experts’ Podcast Series in Transplantation Medicine: legal, ethical and practical challenges'. This is an OPEN Seed Fund supported public engagement project around 'Conditional Consent in Transplantation Medicine'. More information can be accessed via this link.
