Sachin Siwakoti

Biography

Sachin Siwakoti is an MPhil candidate in Socio-Legal Research at the Centre for Socio-Legal Studies, University of Oxford. His research examines the role of the judiciary in realizing socio-economic rights in Nepal, with a focus on how legal frameworks, institutional cooperation, and cross-sector collaboration influence the implementation of these rights. His study at Oxford is supported by the Faculty of Law.

Sachin holds an LL.M. (2021) and a B.A.LL.B. (2018) from the Kathmandu School of Law (KSL). He previously served as an Assistant Professor at KSL, where he taught Legal Philosophy and Comparative Jurisprudence. During his tenure, he led a partnership between KSL and the Federal Parliament Secretariat, fostering one of Nepal’s first collaborations between academia and the law-making body of Nepal.

In addition to academia, Sachin worked as a legal consultant for The Women's Foundation Nepal, providing pro bono litigation services, particularly in cases related to gender justice. He has also been actively involved in research, collaborating with the United Nations Research Institute for Social Development (UNRISD) on a working paper about eco-social contracts and contributing to other research initiatives with the institute. Further, he has engaged with Nepal’s Ministry of Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs, as well as various civil society organizations of Nepal, on various research projects.

Sachin’s research interests lie at the intersection of law, society, economy, and culture, with a particular focus on socio-economic rights and decolonization. His published works explore themes including inclusion, the right to development, legal pluralism, and the judiciary’s evolving role in promoting social justice.
