Scholars of Commercial Law

On 23 and 24 September 2024, a workshop on the theme Scholars of Commercial Law took place in Keble College, convened by James Goudkamp and Donal Nolan. The proceedings addressed the work of significant commercial law scholars with a view to gaining a better understanding of their influence on the subject.

Scholars whose work was discussed ranged from Viscount Stair (1619–1695) through to Professor Sir Roy Goode (1933–). Presentations were given by Stephen Bogle, Michael Bridge, Ross Cranston, Gerhard Dannemann, Larry DiMatteo, Catharine MacMillan, Hector MacQueen, Jonathan Morgan, Francis Rose, Andrew Tettenborn and Peter Winship.

The final version of the papers presented will be published in 2025 by Hart Publishing. The work will be the third volume in a series on scholars of private law, having been preceded by Scholars of Tort Law (2019) and Scholars of Contract Law (2022).
