UNIQ Graduate Assistants 2025
The Faculty of Law is looking for up to two UNIQ Graduate Assistants to help with UNIQ Summer School 2025
UNIQ is a university-wide programme targeting state school students in Year 12 who come from backgrounds underrepresented at Oxford and in higher education more generally. The two cohorts taking Law each comprise of about 35 students. The programme is designed to give students a taster of university study and empower them to pursue higher education at Oxford or another university. The summer school runs for two consecutive weeks and brings in two cohorts of students: the first week takes place from 30 June to 2 July, and the second from 7 to 9 July.
Tasks for the Graduate Assistant will be:

Delivering sessions on studying law at Oxford to summer school students

Delivering taster sessions on different fields of law and legal practice

Delivering a moot workshop and a practice moot
Duration and hours
Working hours: a total of up to 30 hours across the duration of the Summer School, to be agreed with the supervisor.
Start date: 30 June 2025
Date by which the work must be completed: 9 July 2025

The Graduate Assistant will report to Emmi Joensuu, Access Administrator, Faculty of Law

Your normal place of work will be the St Cross Building or the Manor Road Building, Manor Road. In all cases the work must be undertaken in the UK.

Eligibility
This opportunity is open to current graduate students in the Faculty of Law and its associated Centres and Institutes.
Rate of Pay
This role is paid at £20.38 per hour (plus holiday pay) which is equivalent to a grade 7.1. It is expected that preparation time of 30 minutes per contact hour will be undertaken and that preparation time will therefore be included in the number of hours claimed.
Timesheets must be submitted to payroll@law.ox.ac.uk by the last Friday of each calendar month for payment on the last working day of the following month.

Guidelines for Faculty members, line managers and students
Work must not commence without a letter of engagement or variable hours contract and a right to work check having been carried out by the Faculty Personnel Officer.
Graduate student engagement opportunities in the Faculty of Law usually fall into one of three categories: Research Assistant; Graduate Teaching Assistant; or Blog Editor.
The University guidance on paid work for Oxford graduate students recommends that full-time graduate research students ensure that any paid work should still allow them to spend at least 40 hours per week for a minimum 44 weeks of the year on their studies. Full-time graduate taught students are recommended not to undertake more than 8 hours’ paid work each week during term-time study periods. There are additional rules for students with visas wishing to undertake paid work.
Students may not work for their own supervisor without the approval of the Associate Dean for Graduate Students.
