Research Assistant on grey literature and media review on drug policy in Southeast Asia

Professor Hoyle is looking for a research assistant to help with preparation for a book chapter on drug policy in south-east Asia.
The project aims are to review grey literature and media reports, already collated by Professor Hoyle, to identify relevant information on: the (brief) history of drug laws and policy in Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore and current policies and practices in the punishment of drugs, to produce a structured research note (searching for literature or other information as and when gaps are identified).
Tasks for the Research Assistant will be:
- Writing support: finding legal resources, grey literature, policy documents, media reports, reviewing such material as already collated by Prof Hoyle, and preparing a structure research note that will be developed into a literature review for a book chapter.
Duration and hours
Working hours: a total of up to 30 hours across the duration of the project, to be agreed with the project supervisor.
Start date: 11th November 2024
Date by which the work must be completed: 20th December 2024
Reporting
The Research Assistant will report to Professor Carolyn Hoyle.
Requirements
- A good understanding of the field of drug punishment policy and law is essential
- A knowledge of drug policy & punishment in Southeast Asia is desirable.
- Experience of the legal systems in the following countries is desirable: Malaysia, Indonesia & Singapore
Your normal place of work will be the St Cross Building or the Manor Road Building, Manor Road. However, provided you have the agreement of your PI/Supervisor, and a suitable space to work (including library access if required), it may be possible to undertake the work remotely.
In all cases the work must be undertaken in the UK.

Eligibility
This opportunity is open to current graduate students in the Faculty of Law.
Rate of Pay
The work will be paid at £17.83 per hour, which equates to University Grade 6, point 1, on the basis of completed and approved timesheets, which must be submitted to payroll@law.ox.ac.uk by the last Friday of each calendar month for payment on the last working day of the following month.
In addition, paid annual leave will be assumed to be taken in the month in which it was accrued.
