Biography

Mr Zhang is currently a DPhil law student at Oxford Law Faculty, supervised by Professor Nick Barber and Dr Ewan Smith. His doctoral thesis works on the optimal legal authority of cities under the context of Chinese consitutional law. His general research interest covers the area of constitutional theory, Chinese public law and policy, and urban governnace.

Prior to coming to Oxford, Mr Zhang studied law in China and the US. He obtained his Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) degree at Wuhan University, where he was the valedictorian of his class. He obtained his first Master of Laws (LL.M.) degree at Peking University, where he served as the editor of Peking University Law Journal, and his second Master of Laws (LL.M.) degree from Harvard Law School, where he was a Fung Scholar. He took a judicial clerkship in the Supreme Court of China in 2016, where he assisted in reviewing the legality of actions of Chinese local governments.
