Steven Majiedt
Biography
Justice Steven Majiedt has been a Justice of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of South Africa since 2019. Prior to this, he served as a Justice of the Supreme Court of Appeal and was an advocate at the Northern Cape Society of Advocates. Justice Majiedt's career focused on advocating for the voiceless, and he has presided over complex and controversial cases in areas such as international criminal law, statutory licensing requirements, socio-economic rights, and hate speech.
Justice Majiedt will be with us from 23 October - 7 November 2023, as a visiting researcher at the Bonavero Institute of Human Rights.
During his visit, Justice Majiedt will take part in a Panel Discussion on Reviewing the adjudication of Economic and Social Rights under South Africa’s democratic Constitution after the first 25 years of democracy, deliver two BCL Seminars on Comparative Human Rights and Comparative Equality Law, take part in the Human Rights Research Group, meet with students across the University and more.
