Biography
Sophie is a doctoral candidate at the Law faculty of the University of Ottawa and is a member of the Canada Research Chair in Legal Traditions and Penal Rationality. She is currently based in Switzerland, where she is a teaching and research assistant in criminal law (University of Geneva). Using qualitative methods and interviews, her doctoral work focuses on the sentencing process, particularly the way that judicial actors consider the offenders' relatives into account. Sophie's main research interest lies in penal sociology, social costs of punishment, innovation in the criminal justice system, human rights and youth protection.
