Biography

 

Roonaq un Nisa's primary research broadly focuses on the far-reaching effects of imprisonment and the intersectionality between criminal justice system and families and family welfare and social work practice in family settings in India (specifically for prisoners’ families).

 

Her M.Phil. research focussed on experiences of families of political prisoners in Kashmir and elucidated the collateral damage caused to the families of prisoners through a conscious series of actions directed towards people of Kashmir.

Her PhD research is based on the experiences of families of women prisoners in Kashmir, highlighting gendered consequences of imprisonment experienced by these families. This research also looks for opportunities to broaden the scope for criminal justice Social work in familial domain.
