Parvais Jabbar
Biography
Parvais has for over three decades specialised in representing individuals facing the death penalty around the world, in particular, countries within the Commonwealth at both the appellate level and international tribunals. He has unrivalled experience before the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council in the UK, sitting as a constitutional court, exercising criminal, civil and general public law jurisdiction.
An internationally recognised expert on the death penalty and human rights law, Parvais has led and participated in delegations advising governments and working with local led organisations on criminal justice reform to abolish the death penalty, throughout the Commonwealth Caribbean, Anglophone Africa and countries within South East Asia.
Parvais has written and lectured on capital punishment issues as well as conducting training and capacity building programmes for Judges, prosecutors and criminal defence lawyers. He has appeared before parliaments and parliamentary committees throughout the commonwealth.
In 2012, Parvais was awarded an MBE for his services to international human rights and in 2016, received an honorary degree of Doctor of Laws from Middlesex University.
