Nikola Hajdin

Biography
Dr Nikola Hajdin is an Early Career Fellow at the Bonavero Institute of Human Rights. He earned his PhD from Stockholm University, complemented by an LLM from Lund University, as well as LLM and LLB degrees from the University of Belgrade. His doctoral thesis, which was published by Stockholm University in 2021, crafted a nuanced theory of criminal responsibility for civil society leaders—such as industrialists, influential media editors-in-chief, and public intellectuals—in relation to their potential contributions to wars of aggression.
Dr Hajdin has held visiting researcher and fellow positions at Harvard Law School and the Faculty of Law at Cambridge University between 2019 and 2020. His experience extends beyond academia; he practiced law for five years in several countries including Serbia, Sweden, the Netherlands, and France.
In 2016, Dr Hajdin cleared for Judge Helena Jäderblom at the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg. During the same year, he also worked as a Case Reporter for the Oxford Reports on International Law. In the years 2015 and 2016, he worked at the Office of the Prosecutor at the International Criminal Court, notably co-drafting the Policy on Children. In addition, he was a legal associate at the Raoul Wallenberg Institute of Human Rights in 2015.
Since 2014, Dr Hajdin’s scholarly contributions have been recognized in leading international law journals, books, and case notes for the Oxford University Press. He has also penned several insightful shorter pieces on the subject of international law. His work has been featured in prestigious publications such as the American Journal of International Law and the Leiden Journal of International Law, amongst others.
