Biography

Nayera holds a BSc Econ in International Relations and Politics with first-class honours from Cardiff University. Her research critically examined the orientalist tropes and representations of non-Western societies in post-9/11 Hollywood films. She completed the MSc in Migration Studies at the University of Oxford and graduated in 2022. Her research explored the homology between immigration detention centres and prisons through their architecture and design, and their economic operations. Nayera has subject interests in carceral geography, detention economies, the hostile environment and the lasting legacies of the British Empire. She is currently the Book Reviews Editor at Border Criminologies.
