Biography

Monica Thomas is an ESRC funded PhD researcher at Cardiff University. Her research focuses on Black mothers’ experiences of imprisonment.

Her research interests include black feminist thought, critical race theories, social and racial justice, prison reform, narrative methodologies and other qualitative approaches to research methods.

Monica also has experience as a volunteer supporting the families/friends of prisoners during prison visits and also conducting case work for male prisoners within a local prison. She has also volunteered for a charity who support women involved in the Criminal Justice System and/or have been victims of abuse, exploitation and hate crimes.
