Biography

María Jesús is a Criminology DPhil at Oxford's Centre for Criminology. Her research lies in the intersections of technologies and policing in current times, particularly in southern countries. Her dissertation examines surveillance technologies and how they affect policing practices and rationalities, policing and civilian encounters, and police legitimacy in general, using the case of the implementation of Body-worn Cameras in Chile.

Her research takes a mixed approach, combining practices and affections as a window to understand micro-macro social phenomena, drawing on sociological and anthropological theories.

María Jesús holds a BA in Social Anthropology and a BA in Archaeology, both from Universidad de Chile, and a Master's in Public Administration specialised in Development, Technology and Innovation Policy from University College London.
