Biography

 

Maria is a lecturer in Criminology at the University of Surrey. Her research interests focus on the effects of incarceration; prison life; and adopting an intersectional lens. She worked as a research assistant on an ESRC project called ‘parenting young offenders’.  She has co-authored on a number of papers published in journals including Ethnic and Racial studies, Punishment and Society and British Journal of Criminology.

She is now writing a book entitled ‘Prisoners families, emotions and space’. This will be published via Policy Press and will be released in early 2021. She is also co-authoring a book with Daniel McCarthy drawing on the themes from the ESRC project. This will be published via Routledge and will be released early 2021.
