Biography

Kerry Sun is reading for the DPhil in Law at Merton College, Oxford. His doctoral research focuses on the economic torts and interpersonal fairness in market relations, conducted under the supervision of Professor Roderick Bagshaw. At the Faculty of Law, Kerry is a co-convenor of the Private Law Postgraduate Research Students Discussion Group. His research is supported by a SSHRC Doctoral Fellowship and the Canterbury Institute’s Fortescue Scholarship.

More broadly, Kerry’s academic interests include natural law theory, theory of private law, and methodologies of rights adjudication. He is affiliated with the Centre for Constitutional Law and Legal Studies at the University of British Columbia as a research associate, and his scholarly writings on Canadian constitutional law have been cited by the Court of Appeal of Quebec and the Supreme Court of Canada.

Previously, he read for the Bachelor of Civil Law at Merton and received his Juris Doctor from the University of Toronto. Before commencing postgraduate studies, he was a litigation associate at Sullivan & Cromwell LLP and served as a law clerk to the judges of the Court of Appeal of Alberta and to the Honourable Sheilah L. Martin at the Supreme Court of Canada.
