Julius Schneider

Julius is a postdoctoral researcher at the Centre for Socio-Legal Studies, working on a project that investigates the usage (or not) of different types of knowledge in crisis governance, especially regarding climate change and flooding policy in the UK and Germany. A second part of the project looks at public health via Covid regulations in the same countries. His background is in political theory and qualitative social science, where he studies social constructions and meaning-making broadly considered through discourse analytical and discourse theoretical lenses. Besides researching public policy and regulations, Julius has worked on meaning-making by the far-right as well as mainstream parties making far-right viewpoints more acceptable, and investigated community-based approaches to food security through a study of the Community Supermarkets programme in Essex. Previously, he worked as a Fixed-Term Lecturer at the Department of Government, University of Essex, where he also gained his Ph.D. and MA. Julius is further affiliated with the centre for Ideology and Discourse Analysis, the DESIRE Research Network, and the Reactionary Politics Research Network.
