Biography

The incarceration of a parent typically poses numerous stressors for children's development, including increasing a child's risk for behaviour problems, academic challenges and health concerns. Dr Poehlmann-Tynan conducts research on children with incarcerated parents and is currently evaluating interventions that help parents and children connect during parental incarceration. Dr Poehlmann-Tynan is the Dorothy O'Brien Professor of Human Ecology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She has published extensviely on the topic of parental incarceration and also worked as an advisor to Sesame Workshop on their Emmy nominated initiative for young children with incarcerated parents.
