Ergun Cakal

Biography

Ergun Cakal is a PhD fellow at the University of Copenhagen, Faculty of Law.

He has an LLM in public international law from the University of Melbourne and an MSc in sociology of law from Lund University. He worked as a legal advisor at the Danish Institute Against Torture (DIGNITY) from 2016 to 2021.

Ergun’s research focuses on how psychological suffering is adjudicated by international human rights courts under the prohibition of torture and related ill-treatment. He is particularly interested in how social values, scientific evidence and experiential factors inform adjudication.
