Biography

Edward (Ted) Dove is Lecturer in Health Law and Regulation at the School of Law, University of Edinburgh, and Deputy Director of the J Kenyon Mason Institute for Medicine, Life Sciences and Law. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree (BA) in Political Science and Civil Law and Common Law degrees (BCL, LLB) from McGill University, a Master of Laws degree (LLM) from Columbia University, and a PhD in Law from the University of Edinburgh. Ted’s primary research interests are in the areas of biomedical research governance, research ethics oversight, health-related data access and sharing, and health data protection. He is the Case Comments Editor for Medical Law International. Currently, Ted is Chair of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and International Health Data Sharing Forum, which is part of the Global Alliance for Genomics and Health (GA4GH). Ted is also a member of the Scientific Programme Committee for the European Society of Human Genetics (ESHG), and is a member of the Data Access Committee of METADAC (Managing Ethico-social, Technical and Administrative issues in Data ACcess), which is a multi-agency, multi-study data access structure that services several of the UK’s major cohort studies.
