Biography

Dimitris Koros studied Law in Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and gained his MA in Crime, Law & Society from the University of Manchester. He completed his PhD thesis in Penitentiary Policy in the Department of Social Administration and Political Science (Democritus University of Thrace). He has been teaching as an Adjunct Lecturer in the School of Law, Democritus University of Thrace since 2019 (Penitentiary Law, Criminology, Criminal Investigation and Juvenile Law) and at the Hellenic Open University (postgraduate program: "Criminological and Penal Law perspectives to Corruption, Economic and Organised Crime") since 2020, while he has given guest lectures and seminars at undergraduate and postgraduate level and at various other fora (National School of Judiciary, Winter-Summer Law Schools, etc.). He has conducted research on various areas (disciplinary punishments, prison leaves, work in prison, parole, imprisoned sex offenders, plea bargaining decisions, border punitiveness, etc.). He has published one book and various papers at peer-reviewed journals in Greece and abroad. His main interests are penitentiary policy, border criminology, human rights, criminal investigation and the defendant’s rights. Since 2013 he has been working as a lawyer for the Greek Council for Refugees, providing free legal aid mainly in the field of administrative detention and illegal border practices.
