Biography

Antonio Maués is a Professor at the Institute of Legal Sciences at Federal University of Pará (Brazil), where he lectures on constitutional law and human rights, and a Researcher at the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development. Maués holds an LLB from Federal University of Pará, an LLM from Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro, and a PhD from the University of São Paulo. He was the first director of the Postgraduate Program in Human Rights of Federal University of Pará and one of the founders of the Latin American Consortium of Postgraduate Programs in Human Rights.


Maués was formerly a visiting professor at Carlos III University of Madrid and a visiting scholar at the Watson Institute for International and Public Affairs at Brown University. He was also a co-director of the “Human Rights and Higher Education Network”, financed by the Alfa Programme of the European Commission, and the director of the international research project “Transnational Corporations and Human Rights Violations in Latin America”, financed by Ford Foundation.


Maués’ most recent books include “O Desenho Constitucional da Desigualdade” (2023) and “La Constitución de Brasil” (2022). His work at the Bonavero Institute of Human Rights will focus on the implementation of anti-discrimination law and socioeconomic rights in Brazil.
