Anna Tsui Wing Yin

Biography
Anna is an MPhil student at the Department of Sociology, the University of Hong Kong, under the supervision of Prof. Karen Joe Laidler and Prof. Maggy Lee. Her submitted thesis, (In)visible, Illegalised and Deportable: Constructing Immigration Detainees in Hong Kong as the Crimmigrant Other, studies how immigration detainees’ contested public visibility and distinct pathways to illegality shaped their experience in detention and deportation in Hong Kong.
Anna holds BA in Philosophy, Politics and Economics from the University of Oxford (First class honours), funded by the Swire Undergraduate Scholarship. She’s also interested in the intersection between illegality, social marginalisation and employment. She has co-authored peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters on Hong Kong platform workers’ welfare and medical workers’ unionism.
