Anna Kotova

Biography

Anna Kotova read for a BA in Law, MSc in Criminology and Criminal Justice and DPhil in Criminology at Oxford. Her doctoral research was on the experiences of partners of men serving long prison sentences in the UK. She has subsequently worked on the social experiences /stigma of men serving prison sentences for sexual offences, and has theorised the complexity of stigma experienced by families of people in prison. Her current project looks at how video-calls are used to enact family practices and familial intimacy across prison walls. Her research draws on sociology, social psychology and criminology, and focuses on family practices, emotional intimacy and stigma.
