ODA Global Innovation Fellowships 2024

The British Academy is inviting proposals from UK-based early and mid career researchers from across the humanities and social sciences looking to develop their skills, networks and careers in the creative and cultural, public, private and policy sectors to address challenges that require innovative approaches and solutions. 

 

Scope

The Fellowship will offer award holders an opportunity to embed themselves with a partner organisation based in one of the following countries: Brazil, Egypt, Indonesia, Jordan, Kenya, Malaysia, Philippines, South Africa, Türkiye, and any country from this list of Least Developed Countries. Applications that are not considered ODA-eligible will not be taken forward through the assessment process.

Applications are invited in any of the following areas:

  • Environment, Sustainability & Nature
  • Transformative Technologies
  • Health & Wellbeing
  • Cities & Urbanisation
  • Global Order, Geopolitics and International Affairs

 

Eligibility

Eligible applicants must be Humanities or Social Science early-career or mid-career researchers based at a Higher Education Institution or Independent Research Organisation institution in the UK, with a current long-term appointment that will continue for at least as long as the period of the award. 

Partner organisations can include: business and commercial organisations, charity and
public sector organisations, community organisations, organisations in the creative
industries, policy-relevant organisations, think tanks or voluntary organisations. The
partner organisation must not be the same organisation at which the Lead Applicant is
based. The partner organisation may be working in the creative and cultural, public, private
and/or policy sectors. They may not be an academic organisation, such as a university or a
research institute.

Applicants are required to justify the equity within their proposed partnerships. Any applications that are deemed to not support equitable partnerships will not be funded.

 

Duration and Value

Awards are for a period of 12 months, with a maximum award value of £150,000 on an 80 per cent Full Economic Costing (FEC) basis. The Academy will cover relocation costs for
the award-holder during the award, as well as their dependents. The award is intended to be made on a full-time basis. The Fellowships are required to commence by September 2025. An
earlier start date of March or April 2025 may be possible, in this case the applicant will need
to explain how they will plan and manage their relocation on this faster timeline
