OPBP's latest report on the "Regulation of Digital Media and Intermediaries" is published

Oxford Pro Bono Publico (OPBP) partnered with the Internet Freedom Foundation (IFF), a non-profit digital rights organisation operating in India, to produce a report on the regulation of social media intermediaries, online news media, and over-the-top on-demand video streaming platforms in seven different jurisdictions across the world. The report aims at identifying how content on these online platforms is regulated and monitored by domestic laws in different jurisdictions, primarily with regards to the State's power to order the removal of content from these platforms.

IFF requested OPBP's research support against the backdrop of the issuance of the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021 by the Indian Government in February 2021. IFF is involved in litigation challenging the constitutionality of the IT rules before two Indian High Courts. More information about these challenges can be found here and here
