Laura Hoyano's guest blog post on the Henriques Review of Operation Midland

Laura Hoyano, Associate Professor of Law and Senior Research Fellow in Law at Wadham College has written a guest blogpost for the high profile 'Secret Barrister' blog.

The blog post 'Terminology does matter: ‘believe the victim’, investigative mindsets and unlearned lessons from miscarriages of justice' discusses the Henriques Review of Operation Midland.

Operation Midland investigated allegations by a man named only as 'Nick' of child murder and horrific abuse against a deceased Prime Minister, current and former MPs, Peers, a Home Secretary, Heads of MI5 and MI6, and a D-Day hero and head of the armed forces. On 22 July 2019, ‘Nick’, now named as Carl Beech, was convicted of 12 counts of perverting the course of justice and one count of fraud, and sentenced to 18 years’ imprisonment. The review of Operation Midland was conducted by retired High Court Judge Sir Richard Henriques and the blogpost by Laura Hoyano examines the review and asks whether any lessons have been learned.
