Linda Mulcahy appointed Professor of Socio-Legal Studies

The Faculty of Law is delighted to announce the appointment of Linda Mulcahy to the position of Professor of Socio-Legal Studies.

Linda Mulcahy is a Professor in the Law Department at the LSE, specialising in socio-legal approaches to the study of law and legal phenomena. She is also serving at the LSE's first Director of the PhD Academy and as Director of the ESRC Doctoral Training partnership. Linda has degrees in law, sociology and art history with the result that her work has a strong inter-disciplinary flavour. She has a particular interest in the dynamics of disputes and their resolution and has acted as an adviser to numerous regulatory bodies and the government on how to resolve complaints and legal claims more effectively. Much of her work draws on empirical data and she has received funding from a range of bodies including the ESRC, AHRC, Leverhulme Trust, NHS Executive and the Nuffield Foundation in support of her work. Most recently she has been writing about the geo-politics of the courthouse and the relationship between design and due process. Linda is currently on the Council of JUSTICE. She is the winner of the Socio-Legal Studies Association 2017-18 prize for her contributions to Socio-Legal Studies in the UK.

Professor Mulcahy will be joining the Faculty and the Centre for Socio-Legal Studies from 1 January 2019 and will be a fellow of Wolfson College.
