Stephen Phillips QC
We are delighted to announce that Stephen Phillips QC has been appointed as a Justice of the High Court with effect from 1 October 2013. He will be assigned to the Queen’s Bench Division.
Upon matriculating in 1980, Stephen read for a BA in Jurisprudence at University College, where he graduated with the Martin Wronker Prize for the top First in Law. He has gone on to a varied and celebrated career as a barrister at 3 Verulam Buildings, becoming a leading commercial silk specializing in commercial litigation, banking, finance, and civil fraud. Variously described as “supremely clever,” “a lethal cross-examiner and a brilliant tactician,” and “excellent in court,” Stephen’s expertise and intellect has been attested to by many “fabulous” results on large and complex commercial cases. On insolvency issues and fraud claims, his knowledge has been called “limitless,” and he has also been noted for his extensive experience in litigation relating to financial products, guarantees, bonds, and other securities.
