"Working with the Equality and Human Rights Commission" Panel Discussion and Q&A
The Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) is an independent statutory body with the responsibility of encouraging equality, eliminating unlawful discrimination, an protecting and promoting human rights. Its roles include shaping legislation, evaluating the effectiveness of current equality and human rights laws, and enforcing these laws through litigation. The EHRC has carried out some of the UK's highest-profile equality work, including investigations into political campaigns, the Windrush Scandal and the Metropolitan Police Service. - David Isaac CBE was Chair of the EHRC from 2016-2020. During his tenure, David sought for the Commission to do more to support disability rights and to ensure that human rights were supported during Brexit. David has also held senior positions at NGOs (including a 9-year tenure as Chair of Stonewall, during which Civil Partnerships were introduced) and was a partner at Pinsent Masons for 21 years. - Helen Mountfield QC acts as counsel for the EHRC, is the Principal of Mansfield College and is a pre-eminent human rights silk appearing in the Supreme Court, ECJ and ECtHR. Helen was also a founding member of Matrix Chambers.
