Speaker(s)
Liz Nelson

At this OxBHR meeting, where we have the pleasure of hosting Liz Nelson of the Tax Justice Network, we'll delve into the issue of tax justice. Liz will briefly discuss the growth of the tax justice movement and in particular Tax Justice Network’s influence in promoting a policy platform whose central theme is financial transparency. She will set out how states, transnational companies, professionals and others can contribute towards a more progressive framework of fiscal policy which supports human rights. In particular, Liz will frame the relationship between tax and human rights as one that should been seen as much more than a tool for revenue raising.

Liz Nelson is a director of the Tax Justice Network and is developing the TJN’s programme of work on tax justice and human rights. Before joining TJN, Liz developed housing services for vulnerable and ‘at risk’ adults and families for twenty years. Liz studied Human Rights and Development Management from the Open University’s Global Programme in Development Management and Women’s Human Rights at the London School of Economics (LSE).
