Join us for this event co-hosted by the Oxford VegSoc (Vegan and Vegetarian Society). We will watch a short clip about the Nonhuman Rights Project, which fights in court to try to have certain animals, like elephants and chimpanzees, be declared to be legal persons. We will then discuss the concepts of legal personhood and legal rights for animals. What are the pros and cons of this approach? What is the role of the law in having animals recognised as more than mere objects?
