The Sexual Violence Research Showcase is a termly, mini-conference style event that aims to showcase sexual violence research and activism being carried out in Oxford. The Trinity Term Showcase will take place on Monday 21st May from 6.30pm - 8.30pm. It will focus on situating sexual violence in the context of intimate relationships. This discussion will cut across different disciplinary areas and explore various jurisdictional contexts.

Given that in England and Wales, in 45 per cent of cases of rape and assault by penetration (including attempts) involving female survivors, the offender was a current or former intimate partner, this is an important area of discussion. Studies have found that sexual violence within intimate relationships can be even more heightened in marginalised and disadvantaged communities, including across the lines of race, gender, class, sexuality and gender identity. The Showcase hopes to address these issues across three broad themes:

Consent and sexual autonomy;
Challenging rape myth acceptance;
Intersectionality, sexual violence and intimate relationships.

Confirmed speakers so far include:

Dr Sneha Krishnan, Junior Research Fellow in Human Geography at St John’s College, Oxford. Sneha will discuss the topic "Consent in the Time of 'Love Jihad'".

Dr Meghan Campbell, Weston Junior Research Fellow, New College and Deputy-Director of the Oxford Human Rights Hub. Meghan will discuss comparative approaches to consent.

Alexa Yakubovich, DPhil student in the Department of Social Policy and Intervention.

Shannon Russell, MSc Criminology and Criminal Justice student at the Centre for Criminology, Faculty of Law, Oxford. Shannon will present on the topic "An Inclusive and Intersectional Language for Sexual Violence".
