This lecture describes a newly emerging form of imprisonment in high security prisons. It is based on three consecutive research projects carried out between 1998 and the present, culminating in an ESRC funded study (under their ‘Transforming Social Science’ scheme) on ‘locating and building trust in high security prisons: leadership, moral status, religion, and risk in high security prisons’, led by Professor Liebling, and due for completion in May 2015.
