My research explores the impact of space and technology on access to justice in immigration bail hearings across sites in the UK. I propose that paying attention to space can help reveal variation, gaps and inconsistencies in the legal processes that surround immigration systems. The lens of space also helps us to think critically about the impact technological developments in hearings, particularly the use of video link, can have on the atmosphere, gravitas and outcomes of hearings. I seek to explore these themes through ethnographic research in the First-Tier Tribunal (Immigration & Asylum Chamber) across four sites in the UK.
