The Jurisprudence of Corrective Justice
There will be a series of three lectures given by Professor Ernie Weinrib which will be as follows:
Lecture One - 'Structure' - Tuesday 4th November
Lecture Two - 'Rights' - Thursday 6th November
Lecture Three - 'Causal uncertainty' - Tuesday 11th November
All lectures will take place at 5pm in The Gulbenkian Lecture Theatre, Faculty of Law, St Cross Building.
Professor Ernest Weinrib - Cecil A. Wright Professor of Law, University of Toronto
Ernest Weinrib teaches at the University of Toronto, where he is the Cecil A. Wright Professor of Law and holds the rank of University Professor. He is the author of The Idea of Private Law (Oxford University Press, revised edition, 2012) and Corrective Justice (Oxford University Press, 2012). His casebook Tort Law: Cases and Materials (Emond Montgomery, 2014) is now in its fourth edition
Born in Toronto, Professor Weinrib received his BA in Classics from the University of Toronto, his PhD in Classical Philology from Harvard University, and his JD from the University of Toronto. His academic career has been spent at the University of Toronto, where he has been a member of the Department of Classics since 1968, and of the Faculty of Law since 1972. He has been a Visiting Professor at the Yale Law School, and he is a frequent visitor at Tel Aviv University, where he is affiliated with the Meitar Center for Advanced Legal Studies.
Professor Weinrib is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada and a foreign honorary member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. He has also been a recipient of the award for outstanding university teaching given by the Ontario Confederation of University Faculty Associations. In 2009 the Canada Council for the Arts awarded him the Killam Prize, Canada’s highest honour for academic achievement.
