Theodor has been instrumental in indicting over 250 persons for crimes as serious as breaches of the Geneva Conventions, violations of the laws of war, genocide and crimes against humanity.
Beyond his judicial career, Theodor has held various offices, including legal adviser to the Israeli Foreign Ministry, Counsellor to the US Department of State and a member of the US Delegation to the Rome Conference which established the International Criminal Court.
Theodor also holds academic positions: he is a fellow at Trinity College, Oxford, a visiting professor at Harvard Law School and a professor of international law at New York University Law School. He is an alumnus of Harvard Law School and Cambridge University. He is a leading scholar in international humanitarian law, human rights and international criminal law, and the author of over a dozen books on international law. He was also the Editor-in-Chief of the American Journal of International Law.
Theodor has received many honours and medals for his services to human rights law, including the Order of St. Michael and St. George and the French Légion d'honneur, and a past honorary President of the American Society of International Law.
In this interview-style event, Theodor will deliver a talk on his career experiences working as a judge in the field of human rights law, a legal advisor to various government agencies and a human rights law scholar. There will also be an opportunity for attendees to speak directly with Theodor during the event!
