Linda Mulcahy, Professor of Socio-legal Studies and the new Director of the Centre for Socio-legal Studies will be one of the speakers at a unique fundraising event organised by JUSTICE and hosted by Allen and Overy on 7th June 2019.  The purpose of the event is to celebrate 100 years of women in the law in the UK.

Explaining the motivation behind this event Andrea Coomber, Director of Justice has explained:

“Last October, in a public conversation with me about judicial diversity, Lady Hale mentioned an amazing conference she’d spoken at in New Zealand in the summer. It was, she said, the most inspiring women’s event she’d ever attended, where successful women in the law had spoken from the heart about their working lives. She then turned to me and said, ‘Andrea, you should arrange the same sort of thing here for JUSTICE’.  I didn’t need much encouragement! “

On 7th June a panel of eleven women will share their stories of lives in the law – speaking frankly about what has worked and what hasn’t, the drivers, the challenges, the triumphs, all culminating in a personal message to those attending. Lind will be joined by other inspirational women invited to speak including Baroness Hale of Richmond – President of the UK Supreme Court; Sonya Branch – General Counsel at the Bank of England; Alison Saunders CB – Partner at Linklaters LLP and former Director of Public Prosecutions; Sandie Okoro – Senior Vice President and General Counsel for the World Bank Group; Karen Seward – Global Head of Litigation at Allen & Overy; Dame Eleanor Laing MP – Deputy Speaker of the House of Commons; Baroness Shami Chakrabarti CBE – Shadow Attorney General, former Director of Liberty; Karon Monaghan QC – Barrister at Matrix Chambers and Karyl Nairn QC – Co-head of Skadden’s International Litigation and Arbitration Group.
