Counter terrorism as a field continues to present fundamental challenges not only to the rule of law and human rights, but also to systems of political accountability. David Anderson QC, the Independent Reviewer of Terrorism Legislation (otherwise known as the ’terror watchdog’) is one rare and crucial source of such accountability. Since his appointment in 2011, he has played a key scrutiny role and has been a vital voice of independent criticism. In this event, David Anderson will identify and discuss the central themes of his work. The session will end with a conversation with Liora Lazarus, a specialist in the field of security and human rights, who will explore some of the key criticisms and challenges of his work.

Chaired by Professor Lucia Zedner.
