China’s International Arbitration and Global Dispute Resolution
Introduction
Given China’s deep involvement in the global business and commerce, China’s arbitration system, with its unique features distinct from its European and Northern American counterparts, has long attracted the attention of international lawyers. Recently, under its opening-up strategy, particularly its Belt and Road Initiative, China’s international arbitration system is undergoing substantial reforms and developments. These developments not only may serve China’s interests in facilitating economic integration, but also may have significant impact on the landscape of global dispute resolution. What are the challenges faced by the current Chinese international arbitration system? What are the dynamics among the government, courts and arbitration institutions in the process of development? What impact would Chinese international arbitration system have on global dispute resolution? Officials and arbitrators from the China International Economic and Trade Arbitration (CIETAC) will introduce and discuss China’s international arbitration practice and recent developments in China’s international arbitration system, with a particular focus on the practice of the CIETAC.
