This is the last in a short series of informal online careers events hosted by Kristin van Zwieten, the new Associate Dean for Equality and Diversity, designed to mark International Women’s Day 2021.

Career Conversations with Sharon Blackman

The Career conversations series has been designed to enable students to meet in an informal way with women with law backgrounds in senior roles in a range of careers.

This week’s event features Sharon Blackman, Managing Director & General Counsel, Citi Office of the General Counsel.

The one-hour event will begin with Kristin asking some questions about Sharon’s career, before all present will be invited to ask questions. The discussion will not be recorded, with a view to encouraging all who would like to ask questions to do so.

Sharon Blackman is a Managing Director and General Counsel in Citi’s General Counsel’s Office Markets and Securities Services division.

An English law qualified Barrister and NY Attorney, Sharon has worked for Citi since 2004. Sharon is the head of the EMEA Foreign Exchange and Local Markets (FXLM) Legal Team which includes G10 FX Sales and Trading, Local Markets Sales and Trading and the FX Prime Brokerage desks with additional coverage of associated ecommerce and fin-tech initiatives. Among other responsibilities, Sharon acts as primary counsel to the UK based FXLM Senior Managers and the SM’s own leadership teams and delegates throughout the EMEA region. Sharon has represented Citi at a variety of industry level committees, most recently as the Citi legal representative on the Bank of England Joint Foreign Exchange legal subcommittee which she chairs.

Married with 3 children (13, 11 and 6), Sharon is a keen violinist and sits as trustee and playing member of the Croydon Symphony Orchestra. Latterly she has been an advisory board participant in support of Dami Adayeye’s black mental health documentary ‘A Dark Mind’. As chair of the Citi EMEA Pro Bono Committee she was delighted to accept the award for In-House Pro Bono Legal Team of the year, Trust Law Awards 2015. Sharon is a founding member of the UK In-House Pro Bono Group representing Citi and sits on Citi’s EMEA Legal Diversity Committee and represents EMEA on Citi’s Global Legal Diversity Council.
