In October 2017 the German Constitutional Court decided that a third gender option has to be introduced in the civil register to accommodate persons that do not identify as male or female; alternatively, the category of gender could be struck entirely from the civil register. The decision was both praised and criticized as a revolutionary departure from the gender binary. But was the decision really that revolutionary? And how much of a revolution will remain now that the government has set about implementing the decision?

A sandwich lunch will be available from 12.30. The meeting will begin at 1pm.
