The Halsbury Society at Merton College are very fortunate to be welcoming The Right Honourable Lady Arden of Heswall DBE as our guest speaker for the Annual Halsbury Society Lecture this year. Lady Arden shall be addressing us on the topic that "Justice cannot be for one side alone, but must be for both." Lady Arden became a Justice of The Supreme Court in October 2018. Prior to that, she served on the Court of Appeal of England and Wales from 2000 to 2018. Her judicial career began in 1993 when she was appointed to the High Court of Justice of England and Wales as the first woman judge assigned to the Chancery Division. Lady Arden became a Member of the Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague in 2011 and is an ad hoc UK judge of the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg. Alongside her judicial experience, she has written extensively on how the law keeps pace with social change. The lecture will take place at 6-7pm in the TS Eliot Lecture Theatre, Merton College. This event is FREE and open to any members of the University of Oxford and the Public. Please arrive promptly as the walk from the College entrance to the theatre can take up to 5 minutes.
