ESRC: Research the social sciences in the Open Research Area - Round 8
Notify Faculty of intention to apply by: 15 September 2023
Deadline: 14 November 2023
The Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC; Canada), in partnership with the German Research Foundation (DFG), the French National Research Agency (ANR), the Economic and Social Research Council in the UK and the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, invites proposals for the Open Research Area for the Social Sciences programme. This supports joint research projects in any area of the social sciences. Proposed research should be integrated across the participating countries and make an original and significant contribution to scientific knowledge.
Consortia consisting of participants from at least three of the four subscribing countries Canada, France, Germany and the UK may apply. Proposals with cooperation partners in Japan do not count against the three country minimum requirement. There must be one principal investigator per country. Researchers from other countries may be included as long as they bring the relevant funding with them.
Projects may last between 24 and 36 months. Grants vary depending on national rules. French participants may receive up to €450,000, UK participants may receive between £200,000 and £600,000, Canadian participants may receive up to CAD 600,000 and there is no maximum limit to grants for German participants.
