Linklaters International Arbitration Internship
Linklaters are launching a six-month International Arbitration Internship commencing March 2022.
Linklaters’ International Arbitration team acts in investment treaty disputes and commercial arbitrations for large multi-national companies, states and state entities. The team’s usual caseload consists of more than 100 arbitrations, many of which are multi-jurisdictional, conducted under the arbitration rules of all the major institutions and seated in arbitration hubs across the world.
Members of the team are located across Linklaters’ offices world-wide and handle disputes across an even wider range of jurisdictions. The team’s work ranges from giving risk mitigation advice in advance of formal disputes, through to handling all aspects of an arbitration, including acting as counsel in final hearings, and representing clients in subsequent challenge/annulment/enforcement proceedings.
Through being part of the Arbitration team, this role would also become a part of the wider London Dispute Resolution team – a team that prides itself (alongside top-quality investigations and disputes expertise) on being at the forefront of people development and Diversity and Inclusion initiatives for the London office more widely, and with active client/BD and innovation teams as well as a creative social committee.
Interns will assist both the London team and the global team as required in relation to existing arbitrations as well as various knowhow and business development projects.
We welcome applications from candidates with:
- Graduate or post-graduate qualification(s) in international arbitration law and practice.
- Given the international nature of our clients and our arbitration work, varied language skills would be helpful.
- Experience of working on international arbitrations within a law firm would be ideal, particularly where that experience includes legal research and drafting submissions.
- Experience of participating in the Vis moot, other arbitration internships or other legal practice in the field of international arbitration.

Pathfinder Programme
This virtual insight and developmental programme offers a taste of life in commercial law at a global firm. And it's intended to put you in the best possible position to secure a place on our Vacation Schemes.
Over two days, you'll learn about our culture, work and strategy and attend workshops to develop your commercial understanding. You'll get to spend time with Trainees, Associates and the Trainee Recruitment team to ask questions and find out more about life at Linklaters. To help you make the right impression and build confidence, you'll also attend a personal impact masterclass. There will be plenty of opportunity to network and meet your cohort throughout the programme, including a fun social (because it's not all about work).
We value ongoing development and support, so after the two days we will keep in contact with you and you'll get exclusive access to resources and a number of sessions, including the chance to speak to a lawyer from an area of your choice. Finally, you'll be fast-tracked through the application process for a Vacation Scheme.
Pathfinder is open to first-year undergraduates studying any degree at UK and Irish universities. Or if you're taking a four-year undergraduate degree, you can apply in the second year.
Programme dates: 20 and 21 April 2022
Application dates: 4 January 2022 – 10 February 2022
Resources
Linklaters: Inside Sherpa
Linklaters has become the first law firm to launch a fully-online legal internship on the Inside Sherpa platform! Inside Sherpa is a free online platform that aims to offer students the opportunity to experience working for global firms. The "digital internship" is free to join, and is designed to help students from any background access the profession.
Students in the program can undertake a series of tasks and modules which replicate the type of work they would do on a Vacation Scheme or Training Contract with Linklaters, and is a good way to get to know more about the firm and the work they do.
The platform provides model answers so that students can track their progress, and there is even the chance to leave a voicemail for a client, then listen back to a recording from a partner to learn about how a commercial lawyer would interact with a client on a deal or matter. If you are curious about commercial law and want to get some experience in the area, this is the perfect opportunity.
You can complete the internship at your own pace, in your free time, and it will take 5-6 hours to complete. The program also goes through the life cycle of a deal through tasks, offering valuable insight into the day of a life as a commercial lawyer.
