Name: Taylor Briggs

College: Brasenose College

Introduction

I studied Law at Peterhouse, Cambridge, graduating in 2019. I am currently reading for the BCL at Brasenose College.

What are your career ambitions?

I hope to harness my interest in private law to become either a commercial or commercial Chancery barrister.

Is life in Oxford different to what you expected it to be?

Life in Oxford is certainly busier than I expected! There’s a panoply of events – law, non-law, extra-curricular etc – running at any one time. This is overwhelming in the best possible way.

What do you hope to achieve whilst studying Law in Oxford?

The BCL offers an incredible opportunity to hone my understanding of the nexus linking different areas of private law. Accordingly, I hope to achieve a deeper understanding of both theory and doctrine, which will prove invaluable in my career.

Are you involved with or joined any projects or societies?

With so much on offer, I have not quite made my mind up about what I would like to do yet! That being said, I definitely want to get involved with mooting. Additionally, as a keen runner, I am eager to get involved with the Cross Country Club.

Through the generosity of commercial chambers 3 Verulam Buildings, this scholarship is worth £10,000 and is awarded annually to students embarking on the BCL, MJur or one year research degree (including one year of the DPhil). Available to UK , EU, and overseas students alike, this scholarship is for students with an interest in proceeding to the bar.
