Once again, we were delighted to welcome our distinguished global faculty of international human rights law scholars in July to the Bonavero Institute of Human Rights to deliver lectures, seminars and public talks on contemporary issues in international human rights law.

The faculty teaches on the Bonavero Institute of Human Rights’ Summer School in International Human Rights Law jointly organised with George Washington University, and the Masters in International Human Rights Law. This unique gathering turns the Institute into a hub for scholars, researchers, students and practitioners of human rights with human rights classes and public seminars on human rights during the summer.

The Summer School in International Human Rights Law was first established in Oxford in 1995 at the Department for Continuing Education, and the MSc in International Human Rights Law in 2001. The establishment of the Bonavero Institute of Human Rights has given these two world class  programmes a base and home.

This year’s summer faculty comprised Professor Fareda Banda, Dr Jason Brickhill, Dr Judith Bueno de Mesquita,  Professor Joshua Castellino, Professor Cathryn Costello, Professor Helen Duffy, Professor David Kaye, Professor John Knox, Professor Dino Kritsiotis,  Professor Stuart Maslen, Professor Stephen Meili, Professor Juan Mendez, Professor Charles Ngwena, Dr Patricia Sellers Viseur, Professor Ahmed Shaheed, Professor Ann Skelton, Dr Liz Umlas, Professor Frans Viljoen and Professor Alexandra Xanthaki. They were joined by some of the Bonavero Institute’s own human rights faculty, Professor Nazila Ghanea directing the MSc in International Human Rights Law, Professor Freya Baetens directing the Summer School together with Professor Edward Swaine from George Washington University, as well as Professor Shreya Atrey, Dr Thiago Alves-Pinto, Professor Başak Çalı and Professor Catherine O’Regan.

The Faculty of Law also offers the MSc in International Human Rights Law in collaboration with the Bonavero Institute of Human Rights.
