We are delighted to announce that Rhiannon Ogden-Jones, a DPhil candidate in Law, has been awarded the Sir Anthony Hart Doctoral Paper Prize at the British Legal History Conference 2024. Her winning paper, ‘Insiders and Outsiders in creating national parks: the evolution of the National Parks and Access to the Countryside Act 1949’, earned high praise from judges for its thorough examination of legal history. Drawing upon diverse archival sources, the research challenges assumptions about post-war initiatives while addressing land law, environmental legislation, and international park developments.
The prize was presented to Ms Ogden-Jones at the Conference Dinner in Bristol Museum. Upon receiving the award, Ms Ogden-Jones remarked, ‘Winning the Sir Anthony Hart Doctoral Paper Prize was both a real honour and a surprise. I am very grateful to the Irish Legal History Society both for the award and their supportive comments about the paper and the doctoral project more generally.’
The Faculty warmly congratulates Rhiannon on this outstanding achievement.
