OPBP's latest report on "Mapping the Interactions of Freedom of Religion or Belief and the Prohibition of torture and other cruel, inhuman, or degrading treatment” is published
Oxford Pro Bono Publico (OPBP) partnered with Prof. Nazila Ghanea, UN Special Rapporteur on Freedom of Religion or Belief, to produce a report that informed her last thematic report to the UN Human Rights Council on this subject.
This research aims to map the relevant jurisprudence and scholarship to clarify the emerging standards, potential for harmonisation or fragmentation, and lacunae which exist in the case-law of the universal and regional human rights systems [Human Rights Council (HRC), Committee against Torture (CAT), European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR), Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR), Inter-American Court of Human Rights (IACtHR), African Commission on Human and Peoples' Rights (ACHPR), and African Court on Human and Peoples' Rights (ACtHPR)] in relation to the intersections between the freedom of religion or belief, and the prohibition on torture and other cruel, inhuman, or degrading treatment or punishment.
OPBP’s contribution to Prof. Nazila Ghanea, UN Special Rapporteur on Freedom of Religion or Belief is focused on providing valuable insights on the positive obligations on States in relation to the protection of freedom of religion or belief.
