The Faculty is delighted to announce that Veronica Soon, DPhil in Law candidate, has been selected by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) to participate in the Judicial Fellowship Programme 2025-2026. The Fellowship programme is similar to a judicial clerkship or judicial assistantship and provides an opportunity for Veronica to work for 10 months at the leading international tribunal.
Veronica is the first Sir Ian Brownlie ICJ Fellow, in memory of Professor Sir Ian Brownlie QC FBA, who was Chichele Professor of Public International Law at Oxford (from 1980 to 1999), and who appeared as counsel and advocate in numerous cases before the International Court of Justice.
Through Lady Christine Brownlie’s philanthropic support, the Faculty is able to offer funding to Veronica for the Fellowship programme, alongside a DPhil scholarship and international workshop in Public International Law. Sharing what being selected for the ICJ Judicial Fellowship Programme means to her, Veronica said:
‘It is an honour to be selected for this year’s Judicial Fellowship Programme. The unique opportunity of working at the World Court will allow me to develop a better understanding of the Court’s processes and to witness firsthand how it contributes to the development of international law. I am very grateful for the support of my supervisor, the Oxford law faculty as well as the generous funding from Lady Brownlie which will allow me to pursue the fellowship.’
